LinkedIn Job Search Guide for Entry-Level Cybersecurity

A simple, step-by-step process to help you find and apply for entry-level cybersecurity jobs using LinkedIn the right way. Follow these steps in order.

Step 1: Choose the Right Job Titles

Focus on entry-level roles only. Use 1–2 titles max.

Avoid These Titles: Senior, Engineer, Lead, Architect — these are not entry-level positions.

Step 2: Set Up Your LinkedIn Profile (Quick Version)

Headline Format: Certification | Target Role | Key Skills

Headline Examples:
  • CompTIA Security+ | SOC Analyst | SIEM, Incident Response
  • Certified Cybersecurity Technician (C|CT) | Junior Cybersecurity Analyst

About Section (4–5 lines max):

Example About Section:

"Entry-level cybersecurity professional with hands-on training in threat detection, log analysis, and incident response. Recently completed cybersecurity certification through MD Technical School. Actively seeking an entry-level SOC or Cybersecurity Analyst role."

Experience Section:

Step 3: Use LinkedIn to FIND Jobs (Do Not Apply There)

Important: Do NOT apply on LinkedIn. Click the company name and go to their careers website to apply directly.

Step 4: Find and Connect With the Right People

For each job, use LinkedIn to find and connect with 2–4 people at the company:

How to find them:

Note: You do not need to message executives or senior leadership.

Step 5: Send Simple LinkedIn Connection Requests

Send 3–5 per day. Keep it short. No resume. No job ask.

Message for Recruiters:

"Hi [Name], I recently completed my cybersecurity certification through MD Technical School and am exploring entry-level SOC Analyst roles. I'd love to connect here on LinkedIn."

Message for Cybersecurity Analysts:

"Hi [Name], I'm an entry-level cybersecurity professional working toward my first SOC role. I'd love to connect on LinkedIn and learn from others in the field."

Step 6: Apply on the Company Website

Step 7: Follow Up on LinkedIn (Very Important)

3–5 days after applying, send a LinkedIn message to the recruiter:

Follow-Up Message:

"Hi [Name], I wanted to share that I applied for the SOC Analyst position at [Company]. I recently completed my cybersecurity training and would appreciate being considered. Thanks for connecting!"

Why This Matters: This step alone significantly increases response rates.

Step 8: Stay Lightly Active on LinkedIn

Spend 5 minutes a day:

Why? This helps recruiters notice your profile and keeps you visible in the industry.

📋 Weekly Goal

Remember: Consistency matters more than volume. If you follow these steps every week, you are doing exactly what entry-level cybersecurity candidates should be doing. You've got this — stay consistent and keep going!
